The first of a new genre of books ... the Environmental Thriller!
One really amazing awareness that might result from this pandemic is an increased awareness of the respite we as humans seek from nature. During this time of uncertainty and fear, folks went to the woods, to the parks, to the beaches, and out into all aspects of nature to find respite, stability, normalcy, and calm. More people than ever were out on the bike trails, the wooded walks, the neighborhood loops, all taking the time to re-center themselves, recharge their spirits, and get some fresh air. New Yorkers and other city dwellers brought nature in, and filled their spaces with plants, when they couldn’t access the woods. In the environmental movement, there is much talk of preserving and conserving for all to access the most beautiful parts of the earth, but folks don’t really talk about what we as humans get emotionally, or maybe even spiritually, from time spent in nature. How it energizes, centers, and rejuvenates us. Hopefully, as a result of this pandemic, humans really stop and recognize that nature was there for them when they needed it most. Other cultures appreciate this aspect of nature more than ours, and in Japan, it is even named forest bathing. No one ever talks about the power of a walk in the woods, or time spent outdoors at the beach, but maybe it’s about time we did. This environmental thriller is an exceptional mystery book, and has the underlying theme of appreciating nature while taking you on a suspenseful journey with the main character Jen, whose small beachfront town is reeling from some mysterious murders.
